St. Andrew was a disciple of Jesus. Andrew was the brother of Simon Peter (later Saint Peter). Both men were fishermen who left everything to follow Christ. After Christ’s death and resurrection, Andrew preached and was eventually martyred, by crucifixion, in Greece. A cross in the shape of an X is known as St. Andrew’s cross. Andrew is the patron saint of many nations, including Scotland. His feast day is November 30.
