 St. Andrew’s believes in serving God through serving others. There are many programs to which we provide space for gathering, money donations, time volunteered, and goods and supplies.

Click to closeCurrently we are featuring our annual Backpack Ministry wherein we are collecting backpacks and school supplies for the children at Polk Elementary School in Lake Station IN. This is a wonderful opportunity to extend God's love and care by offering children from low-income families the supplies necessary to begin school equipped to learn. Please drop off all donations in the church Gathering Space.  Deadline - August 8th.

The Valparaiso Adult Learning Center
has held classes at St Andrews for over 30 years to help those who want to receive their GED,  and those who would like to learn English as a second language. Volunteers are always appreciated. Call Danni, ALC Director, at 462-4230.

Alcohol and Drug Abuse Assistance
Alcoholics Anonymous meets at the church on Sunday evenings at 8pm. Contact 219-939-0023 for more information.

The Christian Food Pantry
provides emergency assistance to residents of Valparaiso and our surrounding areas. Weekly collections of food are gathered at St. Andrew’s and then delivered to the pantry. All donations are greatly appreciated.

Our parish participates in this yearly event, in which more than 30 churches in the area bring members from their congregations to volunteer in the community. Some of the organizations helped are the local homeless shelter and the low-income health clinic. Our parish volunteers on the grounds of the local VNA Hospice. visitingnurse.biz

Hilltop Neighborhood House - hilltophouse.org
was developed to help families succeed with a focus on quality, affordable childcare. St. Andrew's has supported Hilltop with donations, including food, backpacks, and clothing, for many years. Hilltop Community Health Center provides health care. Its focus is on providing service to those with poor access to health care. Hilltop’s medical director is Dr. Tim Ames, a parishioner of St. Andrew’s.

Harbor Mission
In addition to regularly supplying the local food pantry, monetary donations, clothing, and food are donated from St. Andrew’s to the Harbor Mission - a program of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in East Chicago. Good Shepherd runs a shelter for homeless people in the East Chicago community. There is a list kept in our gathering space for parishioners to donate items to this cause.

Alice's House - alicesvalpo.org
is a halfway house for women. The purpose of Alice's is to offer a safe affordable housing opportunity to women and their children. The core of Alice's is to introduce and/or enhance a 12-step recovery program. Alice's makes possible ongoing opportunities for employment, and assists women to return to being contributing members of society. The Board of Directors holds their monthly meetings at St. Andrew's.

Other Outreach Ministries
  • St. Andrew's has provided scholarships for college-bound students.
  • We donate money for First Contact and Kids Alive International - kidsalive.org
  • Annually, in celebration of St. Francis, we have a Pet Blessing ceremony open to the community. Donations at this service are given to the Porter County Animal Shelter.
  • During the Christmas season we have an Angel Tree in the gathering space filled with names of children in need of Christmas presents. Members each choose a child, and then purchase items for that child’s Christmas.
  • St. Andrew’s is honored to host Red CrossBlood Drives to assist the efforts of the diminishing blood supply. This years' drive will take place on Wed., August 11th from 3-7pm. Please sign up in the church Gathering Space. - portercountyredcross.org
  • St. Andrews is striving to reach the Millennium Goals as stated by the national Episcopal Church. - er-d.org
